Red light therapy

One of the innovations we introduced at COLDY DENT Functional Atelier is the so‑called red light therapy. This is a gentle and non-invasive method of regeneration after surgery and in general – for restoring the body.

The “red light” actually consists of six lamps with red, green, yellow and other spectral lights. It is part of the holistic approach the clinic applies for the overall dental health of the patient.

“You have probably heard of the biohacking trend – this is a combination of practices related to our habits that aim at improving physical and mental health and our overall sense of satisfaction,” Dr Manol Ivchev says.

Biohacking can include changes in daily habits such as bedtime, changes in diet, or physical activity. Through technology, our indicators are tracked and the optimal option for us is seen.

In dentistry in particular, biohacking is a data-driven approach to optimising personal health through technological means. In other words, we “throw away” one-size-fits-all solutions and create personalised, less invasive treatment plans that are based on the patient’s lifestyle, genetics, biology, etc.

Examples of biohacking in modern dental practices:

–        remineralisation of teeth;

–        change in habits to improve gum health;

–        red light therapy;

–        microbiome testing and personalised oral hygiene recommendations;

–        use of appropriate biocompatible materials for fillings and implants.

How is red light therapy applied?

Red light therapy (RLT) uses wavelengths of 630–660 nm (red light) and 810–850 nm (near-infrared light). It is one of the promising tools in modern dentistry. It is used:

–        in postoperative recovery: after tooth extraction, implant placement or gum surgery. This type of therapy helps reduce inflammation, increase healthy blood flow to the affected area and restore tissues faster.

–        to relieve pain.

–        to help modulate nerve activity and thus reduce pain, while simultaneously reducing the intake of painkillers in the postoperative period.

–        in tissue and bone recovery.

–        to help relax muscles in cases of temporomandibular joint disorders associated with pain in the jaw and in the area of the face.

–        to relieve high tooth sensitivity and reduce the resulting pain.

–        to reduce pulp inflammation.

These are just some of the opportunities this type of therapy offers. Ask our dental specialists about it, and we will discuss whether it could help with your problem.

Why is red light therapy effective?

This type of therapy works at the cellular level by:

      increasing the activity of mitochondria – these are the components of the cell that supply it with energy;

–       increasing blood circulation and, respectively, the supply of oxygen to the tissues;

–       reducing inflammation and oxidative stress;

–       stimulating collagen production and restoring tissues.

All this helps restore the gums and tissues in the jaw, but also contributes to the overall health of your mouth. And as we know, dental health is essential for the overall health of our body.
